Compatibility
In order to run Out Run on your personal computer you can either compile and run the project you have created locally on your computer or make use of the executables provided in the Release section of the repository. Now, Out Run can be played Windows, like before, and also it is available for Linux. Be careful, the SFML libraries are linked statically to the executable and you don`t have to install any kind of dependency. Nevertheless, SFML doesn`t work with the same ideology in Linux because there aren't static libraries. In order to run the executable you have to install the SFML library in your Linux distro. For example, in you use Debian like my partner and me you can install it with the following command:
sudo apt-get install libsfml-dev

Amazing project, love all of it so far! and works perfectly on my computer.
by the way, is the project still in development? its so damn cool.
Yes it is. The next step is to create an additional mode to play in all the stages of the map, instead of five. This mode will be called: "From coast to coast". Apart from that, perhaps I would create a time trial mode, but in this topic I'm a bit more uncertain. Thank you very much for your support!!!!!
I press enter for controller but the game window closed ? How do I change to control pad? Also, it is running slow on my PC?
Hope all of you enjoy this new version!!!! So much work is behind, so please if somebody has any kind of problem, tell me. Thanks!!!!
Hi!
Congrats on a wonderful version of my all-time favourite OutRun! Is there any way to play this on a mac, but preferably not via 'bootcamp' and installing the dreaded Windows? Sorry for being a pain.
God Bless xxx
Hi MajorPlop!!! Thank you very much for your feedback. Now, the game is for Windows and Linux in native mode, but not for MAC, in fact, I don't have MAC. I think that maybe, I don't know, there is any way to compile C++ code from Windows with a cross platform compiler to be executed on MAC, I 'd have to make some research about it. Apart from using bootcamp, you can use Wine. It is a tool provided for Linux and MAC to execute windows programs directly on them without installing any new OS. However, I dont't know how it is going to work because I haven't tried it. Perhaps, you can test it and comment how is your gaming experience. Thank you very much for your support!!!!
Hi ZgzInfinity!
Thanks so much for your reply. I've used 'Wine' in the past for a couple of games, but it's very hit & miss, though I will look into it, & report back. Anyhow, well done on a great version of OutRun, my favourite all-time arcade game, it was so groundbreaking at the time, and very pretty to look at, you've done an excellent job!
wow, awesome, massive improvements over the previous version. really polished now!
Thanks!!!! Do you have any kind of problem while you play? For example, goes slow or the controls do not work properly?
nothing that i noticed yet. will let you know if i come across anything
Thank you
After all the graphical glitches I experienced in earlier versions, I can confirm it´s working now. Good job!
I never leave aside the people who have supported me from the beginning. I hope you enjoy it very much.
This is improving with each release, and is turning into a nice remake. There is only one really serious issue that really needs attention, and that's the transition turnoffs between levels. That said, I find myself looking forward to each release and seeing it take shape. This game after all is my favourite arcade game of all time, so I watch with interest. Keep up the good work
How would you improve the transitions? It is better than in the last versions but I still believe that this aspect can be improved too. What do you think about the automatic and manual gear modes? I have programmed so different because I really want that this game will be different enough from the original in spite of being inspired in it. Thanks for your continuos encouragement.
Not really sure how to describe it, but the road behaves differently on the next stage exits. It doesn't steer correctly. The gear modes are a nice touch. I only drive auto though (coz I'm lazy).
Much improved, quite a smooth driving experience, the car handles well and has good control through the corners. This is coming along nicely. I think its time to implement the low & high gear. This is how the home computer versions of the 80s should have been especially the Amiga & Atari ST Versions.
Correct i have been thinking about how to do it. Some ideas are in mind!
Cool! Will try out that new version. Thank you!
I'm really glad to see another update. Nice to see a project grow. :)
Thanks, hope you enjoy it!
Background graphics on my machine are all broken.
It looks a bit strange because we have tested in many computers and all of them it worked correctly. You have to know that the game only works on windows with 64-byte architecture and in Mac and Linux using Wine. The architecture of the system could be the problem or perhaps the OpenGL version installed in your computer.
My OS is a 64-bit one. How to find out the installed OpenGL version ? Wouldn´t a check in the game be a good idea?
Well, you will probably have an app installed in your computer to control the graphic card on your computer. Find that program or you can try to install OpenGL Extensions Viewer. It is an app that i know. Check the opengl version in C++ could be an idea to solve these kind of problems. Concretly, I use the OpenGL 6.14.10.13440 version.
A promising start, but needs work. Most notably the course selection at the end of each section. Also the ripped car sprites need to be reworked to be of equal resolution to the scenery. This could be come quite polished and I like the new levels. The car handles well and the acceleration and braking are smooth. The game sometimes freezes for 5 to 10 seconds while driving. 3 out of 5. I would consider this 3rd best or the outruns (Arcade / Mame being number 1, sega Mega drive version being 2, and this being 3. Its fair to say, that it is better than the Amiga and Atari ST versions.
Thank you for your objective evaluations and criticisms. It's always nice to have people appreciate your work. We will try to improve those aspects you comment on.
any chance of saving the settings in a configuration
It sounds interesting. Just for curiosity, in which settings were you thinking about when you posted the comment? We are interested in your ideas. By the way, I'm sorry I answered so late.
I can see that the game remembers the settings now (defined keys & screen resolution etc). Nice
never mind, found it by selecting left from the lowest resolution
Any chance of a full screen option?
Any chance of split screen multiplayer?
My partner and I have contemplated that possibility. But, first of all we decided to publish this first version to see how was accepted by the community. In future versions, multiplayer mode probably will be available.
